How to deal with insurance company after car accident
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010How to deal with insurance company after car accident
Auto accidents are common, and they are not fun. If minor, it is still very great inconvenience, and if it is a serious, well this is quite serious.
We purchase insurance to limit our risks. With auto insurance, we are trying to protect our cars, our assets (in case someone questions us) and our health through personal injury protection coverage. We rely on our insurance to take care of these items and we look to the insurance company to provide fair, reliable service and coverage, when they are addressed.
From the perspective of the insurance company they are serving the society by spreading risk across a large number of people. This allows them to absorb the costs of claims, paying for them with a piece of insurance premiums, which everyone pays the company. They are usually very strongly regulated by the States they operate, and they are currently on the market, “soft”.This means that pricing is low and competition is high.
Taking consideration of these basic assumptions, we can verify what happens when you are in a traffic accident. By the end of your transaction you are required to report the accident to them.Insurance companies get cranky, if they learn about the accident from someone other than their insured (especially if it is the lawyer for the other car driver!). So call them and tell them everything that happened.
If you are injured, will have to submit some documents if you need to collect money from them for medical bills. Be sure to completely fill it and send back as soon as you can. Not a bad idea to make copies of this documentation for your own file. Yes, you must save the file.
The insurance company will either want you to submit an estimate of repair, or they will send an appraiser to look at your car. In most cases, both of these things happen and appraiser, will receive “a concerted pattern” with your store collisions. If they do not correspond to the views of views, they will eventually. Usually, the differences revolve around the use of aftermarket Auto vs. OEM (original equipment manufactured) parts. This could mean use vs. new parts, or “Off Brand» vs. ”brand” parts.
One important thing to remember throughout the processing of your claim is you’re dealing with a person who works in an insurance company to get everything resolved. This person is engaged in claims in all day long and they have a job to do. They are paid to manage the claims to the satisfaction of his employer and in most cases to the satisfaction of the client. As in any branch of service in the event of poor service you have the opportunity to express your concern to the company and they are likely to take some remedial action if necessary. If you have a bad experience, do not sit idle and do not hesitate to make some noise, but if you have a good experience, tell them.
Insurance companies usually get a bad reputation as an industry when it comes to claims, but in today’s marketplace, insurers are trying very hard to promote good service. There are some bad insurance companies out there and if you’re one of them move. There will be another piece of good companies out there ready for your business.
